For over 100 years, Swedish brand Stenströms has been creating shirts with a brand of detail attention that rivals those of makers charging significantly more. Started by tailor August Stenströmy, by 1912 his company had 140 employees and was Scandinavia’s largest shirt factory. Each of the maker’s modern iterations undergoes 60 separate production stages and consists of 23 components that are hand cut and assembled. The soft collar alone goes through 25 steps, including pre pressing and extra stitching to prevent the shape and finish from being altered after wear and laundering. The buttonholes are sewn with 66 stitches, and the buttons are handmade from the highest quality mother of pearl. Extra fine stitching creates discreet seams and provides extra long wear, while the double stitching ensures durability.
Stenströms’ spring 2018 collection features two fold “super cotton,” giving excellent drape and luster. Adorned with floral, polka dot, and striped patterns, its pieces are witty and unique takes on the classic button down.
