GRACIE PHILLIPS AIMS TO BE AN ENGINE OF SELF-EMPOWERMENT AND ANTI-BULLYING WITHIN THE MODELING REALM

BY JENNIFER VIKSE

INDUSTRY: How did you get started modeling?
Gracie Phillips: Towards the end of my junior year of high school. I wanted to graduate and then start my career. It was always something I’d been interested in doing, but took the initiative when I was almost done with school and could focus more on it.

Tell us about some gigs.
I’ve been fortunate to work with amazing people. I have worked with Pat McGrath, Too Faced, Garnier, Dose of Color, Skechers, and other companies, and look forward to working with many more this year. Although I’ve only been modeling full time for a little over two years, I have learned so much.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I wasn’t certain, but knew I wanted to be a positive role model…
wanted to help out in some way and have a career where I could
do that. I’m hoping that I can use my platform in a positive way to be a voice for those who feel they don’t have one, and be a role model for all those around me when it comes to topics such as self-love and bullying.

How does your background influence your look?
I think it makes me more unique and able to represent more than one ethnicity, since I am a big mix. It’s often hard for people to tell what I am, but almost everyone can guess that I’m mixed.

What do you hope the future will bring?
To work with brands such as Chanel, Versace, Tommy Hilfiger, Alexander Wang, Balmain, and others. Working with Victoria’s Secret has always been a dream of mine, too.
