DE BETHUNE INTRODUCES ITS DB28 KIND OF BLUE, A CELESTIALLY INSPIRED HOROLOGICAL TOUR DE FORCE IN AN ELECTRIC, COSMIC HUE

BY ARCHANA AITHAL ROSE

Founded in 2002 by art collector David Zanetta and seasoned watchmaker Denis Flageollet, Swiss brand De Bethune’s mission was and is to marry chronometric precision with cutting edge design, and its work has become the object of particular fascination among technophiles. De Bethune’s latest, the DB28 Kind of Blue, is an updated addition to its popular space inspired line of watches, and features a blue titanium case that’s 43mm wide and 9.3mm thick mounted on floating lugs that ensure superior wearing comfort. At 6 o’clock, the moon phase indicator is fashioned in steel and palladium, and requires adjusting once every 122 years. Behind the case back, between the 2 and 3 o’clock position, is a power preserve of five days.

Kind of Blue’s high performance escapement presents a silicon annular balance encircled by a white gold ring and a balance spring with a terminal curve, exclusive to De Bethune. Entirely hand finished, with a motion work bridge in polished titanium and with “Cotes de Bethune” decoration, this state of the art design, accentuated by an alligator leather strap, straddles art and technology like few other timepieces.
