Standing at the very tip of Avalon’s exclusive Pelican Drive is this gorgeous home with matchless views and custom details. The Seven Mile Island mansion, which checks in at more than 8,300 square feet, features nine bedrooms, nine bathrooms, three half baths, custom furnishings, plenty of entertainment space, and a wealth of amenities. The home, designed by Don Zacker Architects to capitalize on the amazing vistas, is a Nantucket inspired seaside retreat, complete with both indoor and outdoor living spaces conceived to make the most of its unique location.

While the house itself is a wonder, it’s the location that makes this property unlike others, even those in its price range of $8.9 million. “It has an unobstructed view with the most pristine sunsets,” said Jack Vizzard, managing broker with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services/Fox & Roach Realtors. “The water, marsh grass, the trees it’s an observatory of wildlife. There are herons, eagles, seagulls, and ducks. It’s like a movie theater while you’re sitting poolside or on a balcony, you’re at God’s movie theater.”

The large lot enormous by Avalon standards measures 136 feet in front and 150 feet in back. A number of sun decks and covered porches mean that amazing views can be enjoyed from multiple vantage points and levels. There’s also a two car garage with additional storage space, and at the back of the house there’s a beautiful in ground waterside pool surrounded by a flagstone patio.

Numerous measures have been taken to protect the property from potential storm damage, including a newly constructed bulkhead that extends three feet higher than the standard recommended height. Inside, no detail has been overlooked. Exclusive millwork, custom bathrooms, and inspired décor can be seen throughout. Just inside the grand entrance is a large foyer with hardwood floors and custom paneling. The staircase continues up two more floors, opening onto expansive floor plans. Seashore hues abound in the space, which was designed by Marcy Friedman of Dashing Designs, in Cherry Hill.

“The house also features custom millwork,” noted Vizzard. “The detail that went into it is just extraordinary. There is so much detail in almost every room arched ceilings, detail over the fireplaces, built-ins, coffered ceilings, and more.”
The living room features an L shaped cream sofa, a chunky cocktail table, twin teal ottomans, and a pair of patterned armchairs in teal, beige, and olive. A built in wet bar with a green tile backsplash sits against one wall. The room also features an inset fireplace surrounded by marble.

The large working kitchen is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. It has hardwood floors, custom cabinetry in white, and both pendant and recessed lighting. There are two islands one for food preparation and one for enjoying the results, with seating for four. There are double Wolf ranges and stoves, twin Sub Zero refrigerators masked by paneling, two microwave drawers, a glazed subway tile backsplash, and a large pantry. The space is accented by muted greens and blues. A larger eating area, which sits beneath a unique bronze chandelier, has a rectangular wooden dining table that seats 10 and offers stunning views of the water.

The home has $80,000 worth of high end appliances, including the deluxe laundry room, bar features, and other assets.
“There’s a subtle theme architecturally throughout the house,” noted Vizzard. “You are meant to feel this birdlike esthetic, including details that resemble wings.”

On the second floor, impressive 20 foot ceilings offer a wide open feel. Large windows and sliders bring plenty of natural light to a spacious family room, which has hardwood floors and a contemporary area rug in seashore green. An overstuffed L shaped couch is the centerpiece, while a chaise lounge chair and an armchair serve as accent pieces. A shabby chic cocktail table sits in the center of the room, the look of which is finished with small metal and glass tables.

Just to the side, there’s a bar with seating for four under pendant lighting. Contemporary accents like the bar stools and backlit wooden built-ins give the space a modern feel that’s offset by traditional seashore tones on the walls. Arched entryways are in keeping with the open, airy feel.

Each of the house’s bedrooms all with views of the bay was individually designed and appointed. “All of the linens were custom designed to match the wallpaper or the paint color in each bedroom,” said Vizzard, noting the nautical theme throughout, which is tied together by a series of wall hangings and other details.

A guest bedroom on the third floor features built-in bunk beds for four, reminiscent of boat inspired living. The bath room, with a nautical theme, features a shower curtain that resembles a sail, lighthouse wallpaper in primary colors, and anchor like vanity mirrors.

Also on the third floor is an exercise room with a wet bar that can double as a sitting room for the master bedroom.

Another bathroom takes a sleeker, more modern approach built around grays and whites. A striking combination of tile styles has been used in the shower stall, while gray cabinetry and a marble countertop give way to a bowl sink under shaded sconces on either side of a white vanity mirror. Light is provided by a handsome chandelier. Another bathroom features a stunning tile treatment influenced by sailing flags, a blue mosaic tile vanity mirror, and contemporary lighting. “Every bathroom is customized,” Vizzard explained, “and the details don’t stop at the décor. Cast iron piping was installed throughout the house to eliminate the sound of running water.”

A second floor guest bedroom features a four post iron bed in seaside blue and navy. Another bedroom is done in blue and green florals with seaside accents (think coral and shells) featured on the bedside table. There’s also an office, which is done in rich wood paneling under a coffered ceiling of dark wooden beams.

An outdoor screened in porch is perfect for entertaining on the bay,” noted Vizzard. The space, complete with table and chairs, features an outdoor kitchen to go along with those panoramic views. “Every aspect of this home is spectacular.”

A four stop elevator, a security and surveillance system, exterior LED lighting, and a sound system complete the package.

In addition, the home was built with two kinds of insulation one keeps the residence cool in summer and the other keeps it warm in winter. “There could be 40 to 50 mile per hour gusts,” explained Vizzard. “This is a fortress you won’t hear it or feel it.”

Taking full advantage of its waterside location, the property also features a motorized dock, space for two boats, and plenty of room for storing watersports equipment like kayaks and paddleboards.
