Just-released design schematics have offered tantalizing new aspects of McLaren’s “Hyper-GT,” codenamed BP23. The three-seater (driver alone in front), with its hybrid electric/combustion powertrain, will be both the most powerful and aerodynamic road-going McLaren ever made. Just 106 of these newest additions to the maker’s Ultimate Series product family will be crafted by the company’s Special Operations (MSO) unit in Surrey, UK, the same production volume as the McLaren F1. Its BP23 codename is derived from the car being MSO’s second Bespoke project, and also its three-seat design. The first is expected to be delivered in mid-2019.

“BP23 will borrow the three-seat layout made famous by the iconic F1, McLaren Automotive’s Chief Executive Officer, Mike Flewitt, said, “and it will be housed in a streamlined, shrink-wrapped carbon fiber body of great elegance. We are calling it a ‘Hyper-GT’ because it’s a car designed for longer journeys, but with the high levels of performance and driver engagement expected of any McLaren.”

In the F1 idiom, the new model will keep those wonderful dihedral doors, but they’ll be slightly different (apertures that power them extending into the roof). All transmissions will be tweaked according to customer specifications, and owners can customize further by selecting colors, trim, and other options. No pricing figures have been released as yet, but as always, if you have to ask…
