Some people work their whole lives to be able to afford a new kitchen, one they feel comfortable spending three meals a day in—as well as using multiple times a day for chats, reading the paper, or having a cup of tea.

Woodhaven Lumber & Millwork, a Lakewood-based company, has been expanding its business since 1976 when the Point Pleasant Beach design center location opened to serve people who had a dream of redesigning their home.

Joe Tucci, sales manager for the kitchen division, said a design team is readily available for customers to map out the best possible kitchen for their relaxing or on-the-go schedules.

“You try to get a feel of their lifestyle and what would work best as far as design is concerned,” said Tucci, who has been working for the company for five years. “Some people need time—so it could take four or five visits with them. Others know exactly what they want on the spot.”

Other design centers are located in Manahawkin, Shrewsbury, Milltown, along with the headquarters in Lakewood. All offer a glimpse into the future for customers who may not have an idea of how they want to transform their home. The centers also offer free planning, site measurements, and initial estimates, as well as installation.

Besides designing top-notch kitchens, the company caters to other customers’ cabinetry needs for bathrooms, laundry rooms, home offices, and entertainment areas, from brand name designers such as Aristokraft cabinetry, Dynasty by Omega, HomeCrest,KitchenCraft, Medallion, Ultracraft, and Wellborn Forest.

Tucci said trends seem to change every seven to ten years, and that a recent and hot trend for cabinets is a painted white or off-white shaker cabinet door, often in a wider style. Another trending feature is a center island with an accent piece in a varying and complementary color.

For people just starting out, he recommends that people do the field work and try to work into the budget to hire a professional cabinet installer.

“It’s where everyone gathers, so you want everything level…want something you can be proud of,” he said.

Tucci noted that over its 39 years, the company has served not only the Jersey shore, but residents in the tri-state area, Staten Island, and Pennsylvania, and explained how Woodhaven has created standards distinct from other businesses.

“I think we pay attention and listen to what the customer needs,” he said, regarding the process from start to finish. “Everyone here takes tremendous pride in their work…and we are fanatical about paying attention to the homeowner’s needs and wants.”
