The beauty of the stars and moon inspires this wondrous watchmaking statement

by Caleigh Ostrom

German watchmaker Glashütte Original a prestige brand founded in 1994 and currently owned by the Swatch Group maintains, among other distinctions, an insistence upon using its own movements. Its most recent version of the PanoMatic Luna watch sports celestial details of a silvery moon on a shimmering blue mother of pearl dial, with sparkling diamonds resembling stars.

Its stainless steel bezel contains 64 brilliant cut diamonds (the dial features 18), and the “Golden Ratio” maker law of aesthetic harmony inspired the placement of the hour/minute indicators and small seconds display on the left, along with the Panorama Date and moon phase on the lower and upper right half. The Calibre 90 12 automatic movement features a 42 hour power reserve. Additional Glashütte elements include the three quarter plate, off Centre rotor, blued screws, and a duplex swan neck fine adjustment. The Louisiana alligator leather strap adds a touch of refined elegance and matches the color of the dial.
