The $2.5 MILLION VANTARÉ PLATINUM PLUS MAKES RV LIVING REGAL

by Evan Monroe

Technically, the world’s most expensive RV is the $3 million Marchi Mobile eleMMent Palazzo, issued in tiny numbers to European buyers, but on these shores, the most exalted way to retire in style is in the Vantages Platinum Plus, made by Featherlite Luxury Coaches of Suffolk, Virginia. For its interior, the company enlisted the talents of Karen B. Horton, ASID, a coach owner herself and designer of the South Carolina’s Beaufort Inn. The result is a $2.5 million adventure in splendorous rare-material accents and amenities.

Entry steps are Inca marble, bull nosed by resident stone artist Patrick Paffour, with risers of hand-made glass tile with imbedded copper. The ceiling and AV cabinet in the helm are covered with pearlized Italian leather, while the dash veneer and steering wheel are of Sapele Pommele wood from Africa.

The salon features a custom Italian sofa with double electric recliners, next to a liquor cabinet covered with Sapele veneer and stocked with crystal glasses by Michael Weems and a decanter from Neiman Marcus. The salon, galley, and hall ceiling are covered in custom copper by Chip Manz, with ceiling lights shining through Swarovski crystal. In the galley, the chef enjoys a farm house-style sink (hand painted by Marzi Studios in Oregon) surrounded by custom copper countertops and Sapele veneer cabinets. Haviland Limoges place settings are hand painted by Michael Weems, their flatware handmade in South Africa.

The stateroom features a king bed with a plasma TV that lifts out of the footboard, while the headboard has mirrored posts with Schonbek crystal and antique bronze leaf sconces. Walls in the stateroom are in a European Strie finish, and all bath hardware is from France, finished in copper and crystal (shower walls are onyx). A signed glass sink and matching countertop, by Seattle artist Roberto Scira, accent the bath space. There’s also a private master lavatory, with a one of a kind glass sink and countertop of fused glass by Seattle artist Mark Ditzler.
The coach also sports fully lined cabinets with pull out shelves, cedar lined closets, Malbar washer and dryer, toe kick lights in the hall for night visibility, and a stock of spa towels and robes for the gentleman and lady. The aft closet has a special feature a built in treadmill with a 13-inch disappearing LCD television behind a mirror.
