A fusion of luxury and comfort was at the top of the Sarrica Family’s wish list

When Enzo and Danielle Sarrica set out to create their ideal home, they dreamed of a more formal space that was suitable for entertaining. After purchasing a piece of property, the duo hired an architect to make their ideas and blueprints come to fruition. Their home’s style can be described as formal and grand, yet also inviting and rather comfortable. After the Sarricas hired the architect to assist the in designing and planning the home’s impressive exterior, they worked on creating an interior that would make a design statement while remaining functional.

Before approaching the home’s grand main entrance, visitors are greeted by a manicured garden area that features lush landscaping and well-tailored gardens. An island of greenery rests before the front entrance creating a “park-like” effect that one would expect to see in Europe. Just beyond the greenery and garden space is the home’s front façade, a fusion of stucco and cultured ledge stone. Ornate 25-foot columns bring a majestic feel to the elegant front doorway, made of mahogany and glass. Intricately detailed wrought iron spindles and railings grace the entry porch area, as well as a pair of second floor balconies.

Once inside, a dramatic scene unfolds. An ornate double circular wooden staircase connects to a balcony and catwalk area. Reminiscent of an event and reception space, one can easily imagine this would be an ideal scene for a photo shoot.

Sitting beneath a glamorous wrought iron and crystal chandelier is an elaborately carved mahogany entry table. To complement the wrought-iron railings, the surrounding walls are hand-painted and muraled with scrollwork in warm ginger tones. Porcelain and glass mosaic floors expand from the grand foyer into the dining room and kitchen space. Impressive ceiling heights further enhance the home’s formal ambiance, however its open floor plan is ideal for entertaining and keeps the space inviting and comfortable.

The finely appointed kitchen is truly gourmet in every way. Contrasting light and dark toned wood cabinetry brings a formal yet functional feel, and commercial appliances are concealed to maintain a sense of design. The intricately carved oversized hearth is certainly a focal point, but the double-stacked granite on the kitchen’s island is noteworthy as well.

“I generally like to design large islands because I feel they are a comfortable gathering place for families. This particular one was embellished with large corbels and an interesting granite shape,” said Annmarie Ruta of Elegant Interior Designs, Inc. Ruta had the task of fashioning the home’s interior. She selected petite crystal chandeliers to hover above the eat-in area of the expansive kitchen space. Silk fabrics and decorative wall sconces also adorn the space.

The dining room is suited for more formal occasions such as festive holidays or candlelit dinners, the space featuring a soft palette of cream and dark brown, and embellished with a coffered ceiling and decorative molding work that trims the doorways. Mahogany furnishings, a long banquet-sized table and a glittering crystal chandelier truly create a positively decadent space.

At the center of the home is a sunken Great Room that boasts a soaring 22-foot ceiling surrounded by arched column openings and granite ledges (“Danielle and Enzo have and appreciation for Roman columns, so I designed the family room with multiple detailed arches that are held up by columns,” Ruta explained). The two-storey glass windows are finely treated with graceful yet dramatic dark fabrics, which coordinate and complement the richly upholstered seating throughout the space. This plush room is embellished with a palette of earth tones and a hint of serenity blue. Multiple fabric patterns fuse to create a professionally decorated look.

For those who yearn to unwind with a cocktail or want to entertain guests, an elegant custom bar is the ideal setting for both. The chic , sexy space features a fully-functioning service bar, state-of-the-art media equipment (including two TVs) and glass light displays. The space also features a mahogany, hand-stained finish throughout, along with cluster seating. Trendy glass pendant lighting brings an artsy edge and serves as a fitting complement to the granite countertop. This bar space, in conjunction with the plush family room, offers a gamut of entertaining possibilities.

The powder room features a honey onyx mosaic floor and walls, which conjure a feeling of old-world Tuscany. The distressed vintage vanity and russet glazing on the walls and ceiling coordinates with the elegant color palette featured on the first floor.

The upstairs space features four bedroom suites and three additional bathrooms. The master bedroom suite—with its gracious sitting area and fireplace— is the perfect retreat space for the family. Warm-toned walls and buttery tans complement the large burl wood furnishings and creamy silk fabrics. A tray ceiling, ceiling molding, and custom-designed wall unit detail this elegant suite space, and a crystal and wood ceiling fan offers function with an elegant flare. The luxurious master bath is graced with old world furniture and a spa-like jacuzzi.

Joining the Sarricas in their home are two sons, Enzo and Antonio, their rooms specifically designed to be unique and youthful. Enzo, the first-born, has a Disney/sports-themed space (a versatile combination!), while Antonio’s features a jungle scene with animal print bedding and dark wood furnishings. The boys share an oversized Jack-n-Jill bathroom, which is situated between their rooms. The fourth bedroom, a guest suite, offers comfortable accommodations and a cozy decor.

In addition to all is a full basement featuring a movie theatre, gym, second kitchen area, and a large playroom space for the boys.
