Close your eyes and picture the ideal coastal retreat. It’s probably in a quiet area, likely within walking distance of the beach. Maybe it has three elegantly appointed floors of living space and a private backyard. It would be great if it also has porches and balconies, perhaps even a roof deck, where you can enjoy the views and the ocean breeze. If all that sounds like the ultimate, this reimagined 5,400 square foot home in Spring Lake barely two blocks from the ocean and with views of both the Atlantic and the locally famous Wreck Pond could be exactly what you’re looking for. The three story residence, renovated in 2015, features custom finishes, hardwood flooring, mahogany doors, coffered ceilings, and porches or decks on every level, including the roof.

“This house is done to the nines there was no stone left unturned,” said Audrey Ingalls, who has listed the property for sale with D’Amico & McConnell Realtors. “Everything from custom woodwork and kitchens to bathrooms.”

Perhaps the home’s most distinctive feature is its rooftop deck. Although such decks are no longer allowed in Spring Lake, Ingalls said, “this one was grandfathered in. There are not many of them it definitely makes it unique.” The deck, which is reached from the third floor via an external spiral staircase, offers the best views in town. The home’s exterior—siding, decking, roof, and landscaping was all new to the house during its major renovation. “The exterior is completely landscaped. Everything was painstakingly thought out.”

The house is approached via a flagstone path, which leads to the airy front porch. This welcoming space, framed by stone and wood columns, is outfitted with comfortable wicker furniture, potted plants, and a ceiling fan to keep things cool. The foyer, accessed through an attractive wood and glass door, is done in white moulding and sand wallpaper, keeping the space light and bright.

The first floor was designed using an open layout, and the rooms flow from one to another, creating a pleasant feel. The living room features a custom fireplace encased in tile and set beneath a classic white mantel, twin armchairs, an overstuffed sofa, and a round coffee table. The room is done in neutral hues, all selected by the homeowner. It has double French doors that lead back onto the front porch a perfect way to invite in the cool ocean breezes. Just beyond is the dining area, which has a round wooden table and seating for six on upholstered chairs.

The kitchen is spectacular (part of a feature on the Spring Lake Kitchen Tour in 2016), and features custom white cabinets, a large island with marble counter tops, pendant lighting, a hidden refrigerator, a farmer’s sink, and custom Walter Zanger tile on the backsplash. The island has additional refrigerated drawers for beverages and three upholstered stools down one side. The kitchen also has a side area with a table and seating for four. There’s a window seat, too, with views of the backyard.

Just beyond is the family room, a cozy space with a fireplace and custom built ins lining the walls. A tray ceiling and inset overhead lighting keeps the space bright. The room is done in soft hues of blue, rose, and yellow.

This family home has five bedrooms on the second and third floors. The spacious master, decorated in blues and grays, has an alcove with a pair of oversized caned armchairs. A glass door leads to another balcony, and a large flat screen TV is set on the wall opposite the bed. The en suite features a walk in shower, soaking tub, and a double vanity with matching mirrors.

Outside the bedroom is a hallway it’s almost big enough to be its own room with a wooden writing desk along with a chair and ottoman set. Guest bedrooms, a home office, and another bathroom complete this level.

The home’s top floor has a family play space, complete with an overstuffed sectional sofa, a billiard table, matching leather armchairs, a wet bar, and access to yet another deck. There’s an additional bedroom on this level, done in blue tones and with a skylight. There’s also another well appointed bathroom, complete with walk in shower. The third floor provides access to the rooftop deck, which features a sectional patio set, colorful pillows, and those glorious views.

A backyard patio offers some ground level outdoor space. The patio, which has a horseshoe shaped couch, is set amid flower beds and a line of cedar trees, which gives the yard a private feel. A double garage completes the property.

“What I love about this house,” said Ingalls, “is when you take away the interiors, you have an elegant, classic residence done in neutral colors, with solid mahogany doors, coffered ceilings, and a classic white and marble kitchen. When you add the decor, you get that coastal feel. This house has this sense of classic elegance coupled with the coastal feel, but it’s not overwhelming.”

The home is available for $3,499,000
