Mackenzie-Childs continues to bring nature’s beauty into its unique designs

by Caleigh Ostrom

Mackenzie-Childs’ handmade and colorful work takes traditional design and gives it a classic and quirky touch—it’s a house renowned for vibrant colors and unexpected pattern on-pattern prints.

A dairy barn in Aurora, NY houses the company’s production studio—where handmade majolica pottery, furniture, and home furnishings are crafted, and its grounds are open to the public.

Inspired by an English terrace, this wing chair is an adventure in flowering vines, houndstooth textiles, and tones of coral and soft green—on fabric reminiscent of the tranquil landscapes in the Finger Lakes region that is home to the maker. Its frame is carved and painted with a mix of patterns, bringing a daydream to life.
