A HOUSTON COMPANY COMBINES EXTRATERRESTRIAL TRAVEL AND LUXURY ACCOMMODATION IN AURORA STATION, THE WORLD’S FIRST SPACE HOTEL

BY ARCHANA AITHAL ROSE

If outer space has been on your travel bucket list, prepare to have it checked off. Scheduled to launch in 2021, Aurora, the first extraterrestrial hotel, is currently being constructed by Houston, TX based aerospace company Orion Span. The modular space station will start accepting visitors in 2022, and reservations are being taken now. Featuring four guest suites spanning a total of 455 square feet, Aurora will host up to six guests at a time over a 12 day stay (one or two of whom will likely be professional astronauts to ensure safe travels). This singular package promises experiences like real space research, hydroponic gardening, and diving into an on board holodeck, then retreating to a private suite at the end of the day.

Cruising at an altitude of 200 miles, guests will be close enough to be able to photograph details of their earthly zip codes, and with one full orbit completed every 90 minutes, witness multiple dozen Instagram worthy sunsets and sunrises. What’s more, the hotel will provide high speed Internet to make posting space shots on social media a breeze.

Naturally, such a venture isn’t marked by down to earth prices. Although refundable, the reservation deposit runs $80,000 and the 12 day sojourn starts at $9.5 million. The fee will make Aurora the most expensive hotel in the world, but a small price to pay for exploring our outer limits.
