HAIR AND MAKEUP TRENDS FOR THE GRANDEST OCCASIONS

There are basically three times in a girl’s life during which looking second best simply won’t do: senior prom, a sweet sixteen bash, and of course, her wedding day. But one thing I’ve come to appreciate over the last few years is the extent to which this game of mega-days has been elevated to a whole new level.

At my salon, we now have a concierge event planner, for example, tasked with setting up on-site styling teams for home and hotel visits—enlisting some of our best hairdressers and makeup artists. Some clients are requesting that these pros stay through an entire event for hair and makeup touch-ups—essentially their very own lady in waiting to ensure the young lady or bride—and her essential entourage—look flawless.

This year’s bridal hair styles, incidentally, range from soft to demure, tousled to sleek, in order to stun onlookers in their tracks. And more and more, discerning brides are asking for air brush make up to ensure that it lasts deep into the night.

Hot new styles for prom, meanwhile, include whimsical “down looks,” like softly woven braids.

Makeup trends this season are dominated by peachy glows and artistically painted eyelids that incorporate multidimensional layering of mattes and metallics.
