Along with starring roles on Fox’s hit ’90s sci-fi series The X-Files and Showtime’s Californication, David Duchovny likes to show o_ his musical chops. Citing influences from R.E.M., Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and others, the New York City native released his debut album, Hell or High Water, in May of 2015, produced by Weather member Colin Lee and featuring a melange of folk and alternative rock, with a smattering of country. On February 24th he’ll play songs from the album and more at Asbury Park’s most revered music venue: The Stone Pony.

In 2011, after separating from actress and producer Téa Leoni (whom he divorced three years later), Duchovny found himself with time on his hands. So, he bought and taught himself to play the six string, mostly through chord books and Internet video tutorials. From there, he learned to play classics from The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and other groups. Soon he was writing melodies in his head, which led to what Rolling Stone described as a “lyrically tart, vaguely Wilco-ish debut album.”

Starting in San Diego, the 2017 U.S. Tour will feature 11 dates, concluding in New York City on March 1st. But as a, Princeton alum (and a member of the Tiger’s basketball team for one season), Duchovny will bring it to the Jersey faithful with additional pride.

In addition to musical endeavors, the 56-year-old has also branched out into literature, writing a pair of novels in the last two years. His first, Holy Cow: A Modern-Day Dairy Tale, (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2015) received praise from critics and fans alike. He followed with 2016’s Bucky F*cking Dent (Farrar, Straus and Giroux), a novel set in 1978 that tells the story of a lifelong vendor at Yankee Stadium moving in with his Red Sox fan father, who is suffering from cancer.

Duchovny is also continuing his on-screen work. He’ll make an appearance on Showtime’s revival of the Golden Globe- and Peabody Award-winning Twin Peaks, reprising his role as DEA Agent Dennis. (Season one, episode one debuts on Saturday, January 14.) Additionally, rumors of an eleventh season of The X Files, following season 10’s conclusion last February, continue to swirl.
