ISAIA BRINGS NEARLY A CENTURY OF IMPECCABLE TAILORING TO ITS 21ST CENTURY STYLES

BY CALEIGH OSTROM

The Neapolitan brand Isaia was founded in the 1920s by Enrico Isaia, and was originally a fabrics store for the most renowned tailors in town. In 1957, brothers Corrado, Enrico, and Rosario Isaia moved the operation to Casalnouvo, a village near Napoli, where half of the residents were professional tailors, and within a decade the family operation had become a bespoke suit legend.

Its current Creative Director, Gianluca Isaia, has brought new fabrics, colors, advertising, and technology to the house, reinterpreting heritage elements to make them relevant for modern sensibilities. His winter collection paid homage to San Leucio, an ancient village in North Naples that transformed into a royal silk factory in the 18th century. Highlights included elegantly colored Donegal tweed suits, overcoats with suede detail in the lining, and check prints based on archive cloths from the 1930s.
Isaia’s plaid wool pea coat features a double breasted silhouette with angled side slip pockets and cu straps, representing a “new gentleman” who is dynamic, classic, contemporary, and ever changing.
