The beauty industry directs its gaze to men’s grooming offering updated shaving services and even…ingestible products?

Sylwia Wiesenberg, founder of the company Tonique, has a lifetime of experience with super foods. As a child, she drank a glass of pure beet juice daily, and as an adult found that certain fruits and vegetables provided extra energy and enabled her body to recover faster, while improving the quality of hair and nails. So, she created DOPE Naturally, a line of edible beauty products that aims to help users look and feel ageless. Atomic Beauty, one of the brand’s latest discoveries, makes use of fulvic acid, a compound rich in essential and ionic trace minerals (both of which the body requires for healthy functioning). It also contains watermelon seed powder, sunflower seed powder, and coconut milk powder, and improves gut health with its prebiotics as well as probiotics. Last but not least, it helps to speed recovery from workouts, and promote toned and youthful skin. $55, dopenaturally.com

Edge Of Ecstacy
When Patricia Gilmartin opened Old World Shaving Parlor in Red Bank 10 years ago, her goal was to provide the upscale, old fashioned grooming experience she felt New Jersey was lacking.
You see all of these luxe barber shops all over Manhattan, but there was nothing of that sort here,” the shop owner explained. “So, we started with two chairs at 4B on West Front Street, offering haircuts, old fashioned hot towels, and shaves, and immediately found success. After operating out of that space for eight years, we expanded and moved over to 12 West Front Street in 2016.”The shop, which is celebrating two years at its new location this month, features a simultaneously modern and retro vibe, and offers unique haircut and shave services.

“Old World is about enjoying the finer things in life and looking back on the past with a modern twist,” the owner said of her vintage shop. “Customers can enjoy a relaxing experience, with some classic tunes and employees that treat you like family. We only offer the best for our clients and use the highest quality products.” Open six days a week, with walk in appointments available. 12 West Front Street, Red Bank, oldworldshavingparlor.com

SHAVE SUBSCRIPTIONS
In our Amazon dominated culture, wherein packages arrive on a doorstep sometimes hours after a click of the mouse, many guys are opting to save money by ordering monthly installments of shaving products. Offered by the likes of Harry’s, Dollar Shave Club, Gillette, and Cornerstone, these subscription based services make it easy for fellas to use a fresh razor with every shave. After purchasing a starter kit, refills arrive at a set frequency, and most three month blade subscriptions average $25.

Best way to keep blades sharp longer? Store ’em in a cool, dry spot, as humidity rusts razors and encourages bacterial growth. You can also “strop,” or remove burrs and dirt from blades by running them 20 times on a pair of old jeans (with the direction of the blades, not against it. In other words, don’t shave your jeans).
