Featuring a staff recognized throughout the New York and New Jersey metropolitan areas for its cosmetic and reconstructive work, Summit Medical Group’s Plastic Surgery Center concentrates on both surgical and nonsurgical procedures, while also providing innovative and FDA approved treatments like Cool Sculpting and Kybella. “Our job is to help people feel better about themselves, whether through cosmetic or reconstructive surgery,” said Dr. Peter Hyans, head of the department of plastic surgery and surgical specialties at Summit Medical Group. “Plastic surgery is an artistic and creative field that provides us with the opportunity to help people improve the way they look, and that translates to better mental and physical well being. Whether we’re performing reconstructive surgery after a cancer diagnosis or helping a patient simply look younger, our goal is to boost confidence and self esteem.”

As part of the largest physician owned medical group on the East Coast, the Plastic Surgery Center serves patients in three New Jersey locations: Berkeley Heights, Florham Park, and Morristown.

Hyans earned his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson, and then did postdoctoral training in general surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and his residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Cincinnati. He joined the Summit Group in 1993.
“Twenty five years ago, there were only about 50 physicians in the medical group, and there was no plastic surgery specialty,” Hyans said. “Today, we have more than 700 providers, and plastic surgery is an important part of this practice. Over the past two decades, the Summit Medical Group has expanded geographically and grown exponentially in terms of the number of providers and scope of services.”

Hyans, who was hired to develop Summit’s plastic surgery division, is experienced in facial rejuvenation, body contouring, and cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery. He has written extensively for peer reviewed scientific journals, and has also contributed to Be Your Best: A Comprehensive Guide to Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (Insight International Press, 2006), a book offering expert advice on all aspects of cosmetic plastic surgery. At the Plastic Surgery Center, he has been joined by three experienced surgical colleagues.

“We have an exceptional, well rounded team, with each doctor possessing experience in different areas of plastic surgery,” Hyans said. “All four of us have been named Top Docs by New Jersey Monthly magazine, and have received other awards from Castle Connolly and other well respected research organizations. Our patients routinely commend our staff on being caring, friendly, and informative. We’re also increasingly utilizing less invasive procedures such as Cool Sculpting, Ultherapy, Fraxel, filler injectables, and Botox which are appealing to a new population of patients that might not have sought out plastic surgery previously because they did not want to undergo a traditional procedure.”

“Plastic surgery used to be strictly for the wealthy, but that is no longer true,” Hyans added. “Routine procedures are now affordable and accessible to anyone who chooses to have them. Our patients want to feel good about themselves, and we provide them with natural results in a safe and discreet atmosphere. And, as new services and procedures become available, we’re there to provide them.”
