A NEW ERA OF HAIR LOSS SOLUTIONS
It’s a reality for the majority of U.S. men. Androgenic alopecia (aka male pattern baldness) will affect two thirds of guys by time they turn 35; by age 50, approximately 85 percent have significantly thinning hair. While there are treatment options available of widely variable effectiveness and cost (including medications and transplants), there is an age old technique now reappearing one that’s both technically and esthetically leaps and bounds from past examples. Hairpieces are back here at Avanti Day Resort systems of replacement that can adapt to all types of hair loss. This non-surgical approach combines new century aesthetics with natural looks, giving men a chance to take decades off their hairlines. Whether clients have an appetite for textured waves, faux hawks, or slicked back undercuts, just about any contemporary style is now available to them, regardless of the degree of thinning hair.
Wigs date back at least to ancient Egyptian society, in which people shielded customarily shaved heads from the sun (using beeswax and resin to keep them in place), and was adopted throughout the centuries as, among other things, a method of indicating social rank. (Traditionally, the more extravagant the hairpiece, the higher a person’s status.) The popularity of wigs in daily use began to taper by the turn of the 19th century, but as with so many fashion trends that tend to be cyclical, they are o cially back! This summer, celebrities like Kylie Jenner, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry were spotted at high profi le events sporting temporary new ’dos. Types include genuine human hair, synthetic varieties, and lace wigs (which tie human or synthetic strands to a sheer lace base). Styles run the gamut from fl ashy and statement making (think the long rainbow waves favorited by rapper Cardi B) to subtle and understated.
SEALED WITH A KISS
Traditionally, the pursuit of fuller, plumper lips required a trip to a medi spa and a rendezvous with needles. Now, there’s a non invasive newcomer on the field that’s taking poking and pricking out of the equation. The Hyaluron PEN is a tool that uses pressure to force hyaluronic acid into the lips, face, and neck without the use of a needle. Found in the skin, eyes, connective tissues, and other parts of the body, hyaluronic acid helps keep tissues lubricated and moist, so its additional application has less risk of adverse reactions, swelling, or bruising than with traditional lip and other filler injections. While the pen is relatively new, the technique itself has been around for decades originally developed as way to administer insulin into those suffering from diabetes. The procedure is essentially pain free and lasts up to six months.
