LUXURY AUTOMAKER LEXUS MAKES ITS MARK ON THE YACHTING COMMUNITY WITH THIS SUMPTUOUS 65 FOOTER

BY MATT MIZRACH

Its tagline simply reading “Experience Amazing,” Lexus is a manufacturer that invites a multitude of vehicle possibilities. Restlessly pushing boundaries for 30 years and counting, parent company Toyota has ventured into the film, design, and culinary industries, and its Marine Business Department has been producing sport fishing and cabin cruiser models since 1997. Until this year’s announcement of the LY 650, however, its Lexus badge hadn’t been applied to pleasure boating.

Fueled by Toyota Executive Vice President Shigeki Tomoyama’s desire to, as he put it, “present a dream like vision… expand the potential of Lexus mobility to the ocean” and in partnership with Pulaski, WI based boat builder Marquis Larson the LY 650 is unquestionably a lovely thing. Sixty five feet in length overall, it features a generous 19 foot beam, a strong and pronounced bow, curved deck accents, and accentuated aft hips. There are three bedrooms and as many baths on board (total accommodation for six), along with a raft of luxury amenities. Propulsion is courtesy of a Volvo Penta IPS 1200 6 cylinder, 12.8 liter diesel featuring a twin entry turbo and supercharger, with an even larger displacement IPS 1350 available as an option.

Lexus is still working on a finished product (which has an expected release date at the end of the year its global debut set for December), and initial estimates ballpark the price tag around the $3.5 million mark.
