USING THE LATEST IN 3D TECHNOLOGY, THIS BAY RIDGE DDS HAS PIONEERED WHAT HE CALLS “DIGITAL SMILE DESIGN”

Over the course of a nearly four decade career, Anthony Ramirez, DDS, MAGD, has provided general, cosmetic, restorative, periodontal, and implant treatment to a consistently growing Bay Ridge clientele. One of the principal reasons for such a loyal patient following is his commitment to bringing sophisticated techniques and cutting edge equipment to his small corner of the borough.

“We’ve made so many investments in technology over the past 36 years; those types of improvements are vital to maintaining a strong dental practice,” Ramirez explained. “We study, train for, and incorporate all of the latest advances.”

Performing complete dental examinations utilizing digital radiography, photography, and enhanced imaging, in conjunction with functional and aesthetic wax ups, has produced a specialty in digital dentistry.

“I have expertise in the field of Cone Beam CT technology, optical imaging, and computer assisted implantology,” said Ramirez. “We perform guided implantology, which are precisely planned implants that result in a high success rate, 99%, and a more pleasant patient experience. Our practice has invested a lot of time and energy into learning this skill set one that is not offered anywhere else in Brooklyn. In fact, there is a very small percentage of dentists who practice the way I do.”

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Ramirez said that he knew he wanted to be a dentist at the age of 13. He attended Columbia University and earned his doctorate degree at NYU’s College of Dentistry before entering private practice in 1983. His areas of expertise now include advanced aesthetic dentistry, full mouth reconstruction, implant dentistry, and smile makeovers. He has completed the Misch Implant Institute Prosthetics program, the NYU Continuum in Implant Dentistry, the NYU Full Mouth Rehabilitation Program, Brookdale Hospital’s Periodontic Program, the Sulzer Medica Implant Dentistry Peer Practicum, the Branemark Series, and has devoted thousands of hours of practice in the fields of Aesthetic Dentistry and Smile Design. He was also appointed to the Peer Review Committee of the Second District Dental Society of New York State, where he has served since 2001. In 2016, he earned diplomate status within the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and was named a Dentist of Distinction by the National Children’s Oral Health Foundation. Ramirez is the Chief of Implantology at NY Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he teaches implantology and digital dentistry to the residents. He lectures regularly at conferences throughout the country.

“Technology has also made treatment safer and more predictable,” he said. “We do a procedure we call ‘teeth in a day,’ for example, in which a patient with no teeth or failing teeth can have a new smile within 24 hours. It’s not done using conventional impressions; instead, we scan images into our computer and have everything worked up before surgery. That type of digital smile design takes away so many of the pitfalls and obstacles we used to deal with in the past. Patients simply go home with a whole new set of teeth.”

The practice offers a comprehensive array of general, cosmetic, and restorative procedures, from teeth cleanings, oral exams, and fillings to dental implants, teeth whitening, and veneers.
“A goal is to offer solutions during the first visit,” Ramirez said, but was quick to point out that patient involvement is crucial in the planning of smile makeovers and reconstructions.
