FIELDS OF GOLD

“There is nothing more beautiful than the freedom of the fields,” Coco Chanel once mused, a sentiment that lingers over the maison’s recent Fall/Winter Haute Couture collection. At the Grand Palais, Willo Perron, the Canadian creative director celebrated for shaping cultural moments for Kanye West and Rihanna, designed a stripped-back set that let the clothes speak for themselves. Pastoral yet refined, the collection unfolded in ecru, ivory, autumnal green, and deep plum. Tweed softened into knit-like dresses, bouclé suggested sheepskin in straight-cut coatdresses and gilets, while feathers gave the illusion of fur across embroidered capes and cropped jackets. Wheat, Mademoiselle Coco’s cherished emblem of abundance, appeared in jewel-buttons, chiffon flounces, and bridal embroidery, before the season ended in a blaze of light with gowns glinting in golden lace, lamé, and sun-dappled embroidery. Our favorites? The ivory bouclé coatdress, the feather-trimmed over-cape, a satin crêpe pinafore strewn with florals, the ice-blue skirt paired with a muted ochre tweed jacket, and the plum satin wrap skirt paired with a structured embellished jacket.
