VALENTINO’S GENIUS FOR DESIGN GROWS NEW BLOOMS THIS SPRING
BY CALEIGH OSTROM
In the years since his final haute couture show in January of 2008, Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani’s eponymous fashion house has continued to carry its founder’s standard of Old Hollywood glamour and upper-register craftsmanship. Founded in 1960, it is famed for the hallmark shade Valentino Red, and was a celebrity favorite of legends Jacqueline Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn, and Elizabeth Taylor, and present-day A-listers like Eva Longoria and Jennifer Aniston.
In gorgeous silk, lace, and other ultra-feminine details, this gown nobly represents the aesthetic of the brand. Embossed in couture craftsmanship, its flower appliqués and embroidery are hand painted and applied to coincide with the bohemian floral inspiration for the Resort 2016 collection. It embodies romanticism and whimsicality with intricate detail and inimitable Milan style. With a floor-sweeping hem and sheer long sleeves, it is the ultimate garden party frock.
