HOW THE PAUCITY OF WOMEN IN THE LIQUOR INDUSTRY AND AN AFFINITY FOR GOOD OLD FASHIONED DIRTY VODKA MARTINIS INSPIRED ACTRESS KATE HUDSON’S NEW KING ST. VODKA

BY AMANDA MCCOY

Kate Hudson is primarily recognized for her tenure as a Hollywood actress (her breakout role as the captivating Penny Lane in 2000’s Almost Famous earned the budding star a Golden Globe and nomination for an Academy Award, promptly stymieing any criticism that she was riding the coattails of legendary mom Goldie Hawn), but the L.A. born performer possesses a myriad of talents outside the silver screen. In addition to lifestyle author and fashion mogul, the entrepreneur most recently took on the largely male-dominated liquor industry with a spirit that is distinctly Hudson refreshing, vibrant, effortlessly glamorous.

“After a particularly long day, I decided to host an impromptu cocktail party for my closest friends,” noted Hudson. “As I prepared to whip up a batch of dirty vodka martinis, I surveyed my bar, but I wasn’t 100% happy with my options. Then I wondered, ‘Are any of these vodkas founded by women?’ I did some research, they weren’t. So, I decided to make my own just the way I like it.”

Distilled in Santa Barbara, California, King St. Vodka is crafted from non-GMO corn and cut with alkaline water. It’s distilled seven times to achieve that highly coveted clean, smooth flavor profile and offers just a whisper of vanilla on the finish. The name King St. is an ode to the founder’s former Manhattan apartment (located on, yes, King Street), where she has memories of hosting spontaneous parties laden with laughter and dirty martinis. It’s available at select retailers in California and the Northeast, and it can also be purchased online at kingstvodka.com.
