INDUSTRY: How did you get started modeling?
SOPHIA WRIGHT: I started doing it as a hobby when I was 18/19 and have only just started picking it back up again the last two years.

IM: Tell us about some gigs you’ve done.
SW: It’s mostly start-ups and accessories. I recently showcased some beautiful handmade festival hats for a very talented and empowering brand @wize.girl.

IM: What is your favorite thing about the spring season?
SW: All the neutral tones I really love!

IM: Does your background influence your look?
SW: Not at all. My look is influenced more by how I feel and what feels the most authentic to me.

IM: Where are you currently living?
SW: I live in Los Angeles.

IM: Tell us about your career.
SW: Today I’m a non-traditional pre-PA, meaning my undergraduate was fashion so I have to take all the science pre-reqs and gain clinical hours before I can even apply. I’m also older than the usual intake. This year I’m finally on my way after a few roadblocks!

IM: What do you hope for your future?
SW: That is a deep question for me. I’ll try giving you the shortest but most understandable version. I was born with HLHS, which is a congenital heart defect. Although I’m one of the lucky ones and generally you would never know (apart from my scars) that I had any kind of health issue, it comes with issues (with) mental health and worries that are never really addressed or supported. (It’s difficult) to be told you have something that may or may not impact your life in a big way or that your life expectancy is unknown. The ability to have children will be tough. I hope I can be an example for future generations that you are not just your diagnosis. That you can and should go for your dreams. Yes, you will have a very different experience. You will never take a day for granted which will only enable good things for you. I’ve also spent a lot of time as a patient having either open heart surgery or minor surgery. My experience as a patient has been a gift in the way that I can relate to patients on a very real level. So, I also hope to be an example of a different kind of health because of my experience as I patient.

IM: What are a few of your favorite things?
SW: Our pup Autumn, sunshine, malai kofta, science. My happy place is studying with a cup of tea.

IM: How would you describe your personality in three words?
SW: Resilient, ambitious, happy.

IM: What did you always want to be when you were growing up?
SW: So many things… I really, really wanted to work at SeaWorld with the dolphins or be a vet for wild animals. Animals are everything.

IM: Is there anything else you would like to add?
SW: Thank you to my manager at @ poshmodels for seeing something in me. If anyone reading this has a CHD or knows someone with one, I’m always here with open arms for any questions or just to talk to someone else with “the same as you.”
