Since exploding onto the global dance scene with the Beatport-topping hit “Drugs From Amsterdam,” Dutch producer Mau P has become one of electronic music’s fastest-rising club forces
By Dan Salamone

BORN: Maurits Jan Westveen, on October 26, 1996 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
SOUND: A gritty, funky mix of moody house and throbbing techno, his music nods to early Detroit techno and house, and the progenitors of gorgeous prog house like Sasha & Digweed.
BIG BREAK: Before launching the Mau P project in 2022, Westveen produced festival-style big-room EDM under the alias Maurice West, releasing tracks on labels like Spinnin’ Records. Following his reinvention in 2022 (including his official stage name switch), the rapidly rising star nabbed his big breakout in 2022 with the slinky tech-house banger “Drugs from Amsterdam,” which hit #1 on Beatport’s overall chart (Billboard later named “Drugs from Amsterdam” one of the 50 Best Dance Songs of 2022). The hit track has been played in clubs worldwide and has more than 13 million views on YouTube alone.

NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Since his surge in fame post-2022, he has worked with EDM superstars like Calvin Harris and Kevin de Vries, the latter of which he collaborated with on the track, “Metro,” which Billboard magazine named one of the 50 best dance tracks of 2023. In 2024, he broke into DJ Mag’s coveted list of the 100 best DJs in the world, at #91. By 2025, he had climbed to #77 in that same list.
LATEST WORK: His hot new single, “Neck,” reached the Billboard top 20 dance chart.
