MILAN BASED PETER PICHLER ARCHITECTURE IS MAKING YOUR DREAM OF AN ADULT LUXURY TREEHOUSE A REALITY

BY ARCHANA AITHAL ROSE

Dominated by forests in the Dolomites of Northern Italy, these new century sustainable treehouses, designed as hotel rooms by Peter Pichler Architecture’s own Peter Pichler and Silvana Ordinas, promise to not only connect guests with nature, but also preserve a striking environmental milieu. Intended to integrate with the shapes of surrounding fir and larch trees, the angular structures range between 380 and 500 square feet and will be built from locally sourced wood. With stained black cladding, structural glass walls, and a steeply pointed roof and base, each will sit on a concrete foundation, and in further adherence to ecofriendly principles be heated by geothermal pumps and supplied by collected rainwater. The design is split into two levels, the lower featuring a lounge, bath, and an open stairway leading to the upper level and its sleeping area. “The project is conceived as a ‘slow down’ form of tourism,” the architects explained to the home design site dezeen.com, “where nature and the integration of architecture within it plays the primary role.”
