NEW FRONTIER

Deer Valley opened this ski season with three new chairlifts, several new ski runs, and more than 300 new skiable acres, not to mention 500 additional skier parking spots at Deer Valley East Village. A second phase of terrain expansion continues for next ski season, including a ten-passenger gondola and nearly 100 new ski runs, more than doubling the size of the resort and making Deer Valley one of the largest ski resorts in North America. The top ski athletes in the world will compete in aerials and moguls at Deer Valley Resort this February 6-8 for the 2025 FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup. 2250 Deer Valley Drive South, deervalley.com

BREAK THE ICE

Built for the 2002 Winter Olympics, Utah Olympic Park is getting an expansion and refresh in preparation to be an official venue for the 2034 Winter Olympics, with additional giant slalom and moguls courses, along with more alpine and freestyle skiing terrain. Spectators can watch Olympians train here, and it’s also one of only two places in the country that newbies can bobsled. Don’t worry, you don’t have to push the sled and hop in. Professional pilots do all the work, but be prepared to reach more than 80 miles per hour and feel 6 Gs of force as you race around the curves on stainless steel blades. 3419 Olympic Parkway, utaholympiclegacy.org/activity/winter-bobsled-experience.

MOUNTAINTOP TOAST

The Lodge at Blue Sky, Auberge Resorts Collection and The Macallan are joining forces to launch The Speyside Yurt, a tasting experience nestled in the foothills of the Wasatch mountain range that’s running through the end of March. Guests can enjoy The Macallan single malt whisky flights and bespoke cocktails using ingredients from the resort’s own Gracie’s Farm at the fire-warmed mountaintop yurt, along with light bites and dessert amidst the scent of burning palo santo and ethically sourced local pine resins. With hi-fi audio listening experiences available, guests can pick albums to play in full during their session, or ask the bartender for recommendations to match their mood or drink. 27649 Old Lincoln Highway, Wanship, aubergeresorts.com/bluesky.

DEPOT OF GOLD

The hottest new restaurants in Park City this season have a distinctly French flair, courtesy of James Beard Award-winning chef Galen Zamarra. French brasserie Le Depot is named for the 19th century Union Pacific Railroad Depot built during the town’s mining boom, and previously home to Robert Redford’s Zoom Restaurant. Zamarra resurrects the cherished landmark with a lively, modern approach to French classics, including seafood towers and roasted bone marrow. Next door, intimate all-day cafe and wine bar Union Parisserie serves fresh baked pastries, house-made ice cream, and gooey warm cookies along with hors d’oeuvres, wine, and craft beer in the evening. Both will be open daily.
