TIFFANY & CO. TAKES A TRADITIONAL SEASONAL ITEM TO DIZZYING HEIGHTS

BY ARCHANA AITHAL ROSE

Advent, in most Christian faiths, begins the fourth Sunday before Christmas, and is a time of waiting and preparation for celebrations of both the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas and his expected return at the Second Coming. Its associated items include a dedicated wreath and calendar, the latter first used by German Lutherans in the 19th century. Perhaps not entirety in keeping with Jesus’s repeated admonishments about wealth, but beautiful nonetheless, Tiffany’s has unveiled an Advent calendar that rings in at a whopping $112,000. The four foot tall design, in Tiffany signature blue, is screen printed with the flagship store’s façade and holds 24 individual gifts each presented in house famed branded boxes. They range from diamond pendants to the new Tiffany 1837 watch, along with a $720 sterling silver Color Block pen and pencil set.
