Poetic justice

Max Mara’s creative head, Ian Griffi th, has long shared a soulful connection with artists of every genre. From Marlene Dietrich to David Bowie, the Dada art movement to Bauhaus, Griffi th has constantly explored themes of art through the language of fashion. For the Italian luxury brand’s Resort 2023 collection, Griffi th found inspiration in Portugal, from Portuguese artist Natalia Correia to Fado, Lisbon’s local music genre. “Correia’s powerful personality placed her at the heart of Portuguese cultural life in the 1970s where she became a symbol of a seductive and unconventional femininity,” said Griffi th in describing his muse for the collection. Captured with an expert eye, this collection reflects an elegance that transcends seasonality through printed strapless dresses, voluminous cropped jackets, belted coats, and sharp pencil skirts with pleated trimming. Colorful taff eta dresses in rich ochre, electric blue, and burnt orange broke up the neutrals in the collection, while rich crystal embroidery on coats and sweaters added a touch of timeless refinement. maxmara.com
