MIND OVER MATTER
The checklist is set, down to the most precise of details: classic three-tiered tuxedo cake, choreographed flash mob on the dance floor, something borrowed and something blue. But the single most important item (and one that’s often neglected or overlooked) is preparing yourself mind, body, and soul. With all the responsibilities and hysteria that go into planning an event of this scale and significance, sometimes your mental and emotional wellness can get lost in the mix. Even as early as 12 months out, it’s crucial to begin implementing habits that will aid in making your happiness and health a top priority. Self-care is perhaps more vital than ever, so figure out what that means to you running, luxuriating at a spa, daily meditation, even salsa dancing any activity that brings you joy.
SKIN THAT SINGS
The best accessory to don on the big day isn’t a vintage veil or designer pumps it’s vibrant, glowing skin that shines from the inside out. Think of makeup (should you choose to wear it) as the cherry, not the sundae itself. Begin prepping your skin months in advance by creating a beauty budget and skincare plan, which can include beefing up your intake of greens, vitamins, and sweet H2O, treating yourself to monthly facials, and investing in a comprehensive home skincare routine. Remember two prominent factors that can contribute to a cloudy complexion: lack of sleep and stress. When your stress levels rise, your sympathetic nervous system releases hormones like cortisol, which induces oil production in your glands, clogging pores and causing breakouts. Stress can feel like a primal human response, sure, so strive to have both a prevention and reactionary plan in place from self-care to breathing techniques.
BRAID OF HONOR
Much like the dress, choosing how to style your hair offers ample room for imagination. Fishtail braid, wind swept up do, loose curls, long and luscious options run the gamut, and we haven’t even delved into accessories. While the classic up do remains perennially in vogue, wedding hair trends quickly gaining stream for 2022 include slightly untamed long braids decorated with seashells, a tiara, or clips; or simply wearing the hair down either with gentle waves or board straight. Regardless of the style you choose, be sure to begin your hair prep about six months out by taking a B vitamin and seeking regular conditioning treatments at a salon. If you’re interested in testing out a new color or length, experts recommend a six-month lead time to allow enough time to tweak the look.
