The most expensive readily available leather jacket on earth, the newest member of Gucci’s Cruise Collection is counterculture irony at its finest
by Evan Monroe
Technically, the most expensive piece of leather apparel of all time was “The Thriller Jacket,” worn by Michael Jackson in his video for the 1983 megahit
“Thriller,” which sold at auction for $1.8 million in 2011.
At just under the starting price of a Jeep Renegade, this Gucci price-ranks at number two… actually number one if you actually want to wear the world’s priciest.
A slightly oversized biker, made in Italy, this speaks to the “London Calling” inspiration of Gucci’s Cruise Collection. Made from soft leather with a variety of vintage effects, it’s fully encrusted with metal studs of numerous shapes, sizes, and finishes. The punk effect is further characterized by multiple chains draped across the back. With asymmetrical zipper closure, zippers at the pockets and sleeves, and a checked cotton lining.
