Maimonides Medical Center is advancing healthcare in Brooklyn with the opening of its new, state of the art multispecialty center, Maimonides Doctors Multispecialty Pavilion. The custom built, seven story facility combines innovative clinical approaches with cutting edge technology and amenities for an outstanding patient experience and the highest quality care. More than 100 Maimonides doctors will start seeing patients this winter at Brooklyn’s newest destination for specialty and primary care.

Maimonides Doctors Pavilion will house more than 20 specialty and primary care practices for adults and children. Patients and their families will be able to see doctors from a wide range of cardiovascular, neurosciences, surgical, medical, maternal fetal medicine, pediatric, and other specialties in a single location. “Maimonides Doctors Pavilion is a game changer. It is not only state of the art in its design and architecture, it’s also ushering in an entirely new way of practicing medicine,” noted Dr. Robert Frankel, director of Interventional Cardiology at Maimonides Medical Center. “We have situated over 20 medical practices in one facility to maximize convenience for patients and their families and support the delivery of exceptional care.”

Maimonides physicians are recognized for clinical excellence, and the hospital has been ranked among the top ten in the U.S. for clinical excellence for three years in a row by the federal government.

“When you choose a Maimonides doctor, you will be treated by an experienced physician with advanced training and skills, supported by the expertise and resources of a multidisciplinary team, for the best possible outcomes,” added Dr. Frankel.

The doctor went on to explain that every detail at the pavilion had been carefully planned to make patients’ experience as comfortable, convenient, and safe as possible.
“Everyone in Brooklyn knows parking can be a challenge.

That’s why we built a two level underground parking garage specifically for patients.”
There is elevator access from the garage, and the facility is fully accessible for individuals with physical and sensory disabilities.

With multiple adult and pediatric specialists under one roof, patients can schedule appointments with more than one doctor and do testing on the same day in one convenient location.

The clean, modern facility was designed with easy to navigate floor plans and lots of natural light. There are spacious waiting areas on every floor, and 160 total exam rooms. Every floor is laid out the same way to make it easy to navigate. Centralized registration takes place in the lobby, which also features a coffee bar, Patient Information & Resource Center, and a lactation room. Language interpretation services are available to patients and caregivers on request.

Available medical tests in the pavilion include walk in blood draws (no appointment required), EKGs and other cardiac studies, EEGs, genetic testing, high risk pregnancy testing, pulmonary function tests (PFTs), and more.

The renowned Maimonides Heart & Vascular Institute is now based at Maimonides Doctors Pavilion. Maimonides is the number one ranked hospital in the U.S. for heart attack survival and has long been lauded for its investments in technology and ability to remain at the forefront of cardiovascular care. The Institute offers cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, and vascular surgery services, as well as a vein center.

“Dr. Jacob Shani, Maimonides’ chair of Cardiology, was one of the first cardiologists in the country to perform interventional procedures,” noted Dr. Frankel, who served as a fellow under Dr. Shani and subsequently became his partner. “Maimonides has invested heavily in the field of cardiology and interventional cardiology; what started out as a simple balloon procedure has now morphed into all sorts of devices, including stents and drills that clean out heart calcium, and we use imaging both diagnostically and therapeutically. It’s a very exciting field that continues to grow today.”

For physicians like Dr. Frankel, the new pavilion is raising the bar at Maimonides yet again. “Maimonides Doctors Pavilion is not just changing where we practice, it’s changing how we practice, too,” he said. “Having multiple specialties co located in one building further enhances how our medical teams can collaborate on patient care.”

Multispecialty collaboration has always been central to Maimonides care. As an example, Dr. Frankel collaborates extensively with Dr. Shoshana Haberman, director of Maternal Fetal Medicine.

“We’ve had great successes together, helping women at risk get through their pregnancies safely while addressing their cardiac issues,” said Dr. Frankel. “Together, we fix the problem before delivery and preserve both the mother’s and baby’s health in the process.”

Maimonides Maternal Fetal Medicine and advanced Gynecological Diagnostic Services will be available in the new pavilion. The hospital’s physicians and specialists are experts in caring for women with high risk pregnancies and complications during pregnancy. Maimonides’ OB/GYN department works extensively with various subspecialties to diagnose and treat maternal and fetal complexities as well as women’s health issues.

“We see approximately 100 patients per day and our staff is extremely focused on precise patient care,” explained Dr. Haberman.

From conception through delivery, Dr. Haberman said her staff is highly trained at diagnosing and treating all fetal abnormalities, and the department also offers advanced genetic counseling and testing.

Working in close collaboration with specialists like Dr. Frankel, Dr. Haberman said the move to this new pavilion will help her team to better treat maternal diseases and collaborate with pediatric subspecialists to plan care for babies with abnormalities.

“We’ve always worked together in a multidisciplinary fashion, and Maimonides Doctors Pavilion will allow us to continue that work even more closely with other disciplines providing comprehensive women’s health services under the same roof, from adolescence through post-menopausal care,” she concluded.
