CHEVROLET CORVETTE STINGRAY CONVERTIBLE
When Chevy set out to reinvent the prodigal ‘Vette for 2020, its mission was “to develop a new sports car, combining the successful attributes of Corvette with the performance and driving experience of mid-engine supercars,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette executive chief engineer. Reviving an iconic moniker from the ‘60s, the 2020 Corvette Stingray debuted as a ferocious mid-engine marvel, billed as a supercar for the masses (its entry level price tag was comfortably placed under $60k). The next generation also introduced the first ever power folding hardtop Corvette Convertible (in the past, only soft tops were used for wind in your hair excitement).

While pricing remains the same for the Stingray’s second production year, it did receive a few upgrades, including standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, plus a medley of new interior and exterior colors and racing stripes. Magnetic Selective Ride Control suspension, which interprets real time data via suspension mounted accelerometers and adapts to changing road conditions on the fly, is now available as a standalone option as well.

UNDER THE HOOD
Chevy’s next generation direct injection 6.2L LT2 V8 is paired with a marque first eight speed dual clutch transmission, providing lightning fast shifts and excellent power transfer. It delivers 495 horses with 470 lb. ft. of torque and whips from 0 60 in less than three seconds.

BENTLEY BENTAYGA SPEED
In an increasingly competitive super luxe SUV segment that includes flashy elites like the Aston Martin DBX and Lamborghini Urus, one has to continue to position itself apart from the crowd, and Bentley proved up for the challenge. Though technically billed as a mid-cycle refresh, the 2021 Bentayga went far beyond a handful of tech and cosmetic upgrades, unveiling a sweeping visual makeover with entirely new, more elegant front and rear ends, including a broader radiator grille and wraparound tailgate with oval lamps.

Options underneath the hood include the same 4.0L twin turbo V8, reaching 0 60 in 4.4 seconds, or a more efficient hybrid powertrain that combines a 3.0L twin turbo V6 and an electric motor for a peak system output of 443 horses and 516 lb ft of torque. But this year, the Bentayga was ready to reclaim its title as the fastest of the pack (Lambo’s Urus took the honor in 2017) with the new Bentayga Speed powered by a wild class leading 6.0L W12 that races from 0 60 in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 190 mph officially crowning the Bentayga the cheetah of the SUV kingdom.

CALL IT FAMILY RESEMBLANCE

The 2021 Bentayga is outfitted with new “cut glass” elliptical LED headlights, similar to those of cousins Flying Spur and Continental.

MULTIMEDIA UPGRADES

PORSCHE PANAMERA TURBO S SPORT TURISMO
In 2010, Porsche rocked auto dom with the release of the Panamera, a lightning fast luxury sports car…that had four doors. The German automaker had toyed with the idea for decades, including a four door prototype of the 356 in the 1950s and later a larger, family sized variant of the 911, but it wasn’t until the new millennium that its ambitious vision came to fruition with the Panamera, a chiseled saloon that blurred the lines between superior comfort and heart pounding thrill.

The now 11 year old nameplate is flying into 2021 with a host of performance upgrades, notably an updated 4.0L twin turbo V8 for the Type S series that includes changes to the crankshaft, connecting rods, timing chain drive, and torsional vibration dampers, plus new fuel injectors and a reduced compression ratio, all adding up to 620 horses, 604 lb. ft. of torque, and a hold on to your hats 0 60 time of 2.9 seconds (when Launch Control is engaged). All Turbo S models have a top track speed of 196 mph. Early 2021 release, pricing unofficial.

ALFA ROMEO STELVIO QUADRIFOGLIO
The Italian maker’s compact SUV underwent meaningful changes last year, receiving interior material upgrades, larger 8.8 inch touchscreen infotainment system, and added level two autonomy safety tech (Romeo’s midsize luxury sedan, the Giulia, received similar enhancements). A nifty DNA Pro Drive Mode Selector puts control in the drivers’ hands, allowing them to choose from four different modes with the turn of a dial, including natural, dynamic, weather (for slippery road surfaces), and race. BMW IX (2022)
When BMW’s first crossover, the X5, launched in 1999, it was billed as the world’s first SAV, or sport activity vehicle, to highlight the luxury high rider’s capabilities (like a 6,000 pound tow capacity and optional roof racks for kayaks, canoes, or even full camping set ups). More than two decades later, the German powerhouse is expanding the segment with its first fully electric SAV. The iX is based on the Vision iNext concept that debuted in 2018 at the Los Angeles Auto Show and is scheduled for a late 2021 launch in Europe followed by a North American debut in early 2022. The technological flagship lives up to its title with impressive numbers; expect a range of over 300 miles and a total motor output of up to 500 horsepower. JEEP GRAND WAGONEER CONCEPT
Born in 1962, the “All New, All Jeep” Wagoneer was the ultimate land yacht of its time. It was the first 4X4 to feature an automatic transmission and independent front suspension, and it was damn luxurious. For nearly three decades, it dominated trail ways and urban streets alike until it was sadly laid to rest in 1991 due to industry shifts and waning demands until now. The “first luxury SUV” is back and intends to “once again define ‘American Premium,’ making it the standard of sophistication, authenticity, and modern mobility,” noted Christian Meunier, global president of the Jeep Brand for FCA, at the press conference for the 2020 Grand Wagoneer concept. When it rolls into dealerships later this year, the luxe rider will be packed with ultra-premium creature comforts, like a full length single pane glass roof, choice interior materials like hand and heat treated blackened lace wood with raw accent edging, and an exclusive McIntosh sound system. Both the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer will be manufactured at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan. Pricing unofficial.

JEEP NOTED
that when the production version arrives later this year, it will offer three different 4X4 systems and the brand’s Quadra Lift air suspension, which employs air springs in lieu of traditional coil springs at each wheel, allowing for significant changes in ride height depending on the terrain.

INTELLIGENT LED LIGHTING
improves nighttime visibility on winding streets by utilizing a dynamic 180 degree lateral rotation and integrated electronic headlamp motor that follows any twist or turn in the road.

MASERATI MC20
Enthusiasts have been waiting with bated breath for Maserati’s new flagship, a mid engine supercar that would mark the Italian powerhouse’s return to racing. The name MC20 was announced last February, and in September, the sporty super coupe was unveiled, its svelte lines and revolutionary engine flaunting both sinew and sophistication. The exterior styling took a more elegant approach, choosing smoother angles over traditional supercar characteristics like aggressive wings or oversized air intakes. But the real marvel is under the hood. The new Nettuno engine, entirely developed by Maserati at its Modena facilities and the first proprietary engine in 20 years, is a Formula One inspired twin turbo 3.0L V6 paired with an eight speed dual clutch tranny. The numbers? 621 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 538 lb. ft. of torque between 3,000 and 5,500 rpm that’s an insane 207 horses per liter, folks, thanks to the first twin spark plug pre chamber combustion system on a street vehicle. Performance is further enhanced by the tremendous power to weight ratio from the MC20’s feather light, all carbon fiber monocoque. Pricing unofficial.

THE TRIDENT LOGO
is based on the Fountain of Neptune in Piazza Maggiore in Bologna, the original home of the manufacturer. The MC20 is the first true supercar to bear the symbol.

THE MC20
will debut a suite of Maserati first tech features, including Android based infotainment system with connected services, a digital instrument panel, and a virtual rearview mirror.

THE SUPER SPORTSCAR
is slated for a fall release, with convertible and all wheel drive all electric variants to follow.

JAGUAR F PACE SVR
“As a team, we’re incredibly proud of the F PACE SVR, so trying to improve on the original was always going to be a difficult task,” noted Paul Barritt, F PACE SVR chief program engineer. The performance version of Jaguar’s top seller, this frisky two row SUV isn’t just showing off a sharper appearance for 2021. Motorsport inspired front bodywork reduces lift by 35% and lowers drag, while larger air intakes, hood vents, and side fender vents work to keep the eager engine comfortably cool. While the supercharged 5.0L V8 engine shepherds the same 550 horsepower as the previous model, there is an additional 14 lb. ft. of torque on board, slashing the 0-60 time by 0.3 seconds to 3.8 and raising the top speed to 178 mph. But the added speed won’t cost drivers more at the pump, as the engineers carved out an additional two mpg, increasing the highway rating up to 23.
