On Wednesday, November 16, New York Methodist held its sixth annual Red Stocking Soirée fundraiser in the Hospital’s Carrington Pavilion. The event offered a “Taste of Brooklyn,” with dozens of local restaurants and food and beverage vendors.

The event featured a celebrity chef panel including Adam Harvey, chef and co-owner of A&E Supply Co., Elizabeth Falkner, chef, author and artist, Daniel Stone, ICE chef instructor and recipe editor, and Harold Dieterle, principal at HD hospitality. They chose Krupa Grocery in Park Slope as the winning vendor. Krupa served their signature “Chicken & the Egg” dish – a pickled egg stuffed with chicken liver pate, pickled mustard seed and coco nibs. Attendees also voted on their favorite foods, and the “People’s Choice Award” went to the meatball buns prepared by Lo’s Balls.

NYM’s Red Stocking Campaign is the oldest holiday fundraising drive in the country. The campaign started in 1925 with school children and church groups filling slots in a red paper stocking with dimes to provide medical care for the needy. The mission of the campaign remains the same today: helping the Hospital to offer care for those who are uninsured or under-insured.
