The borough’s tallest building—a hybrid of 377 condo and rental homes—celebrates a year of exploring extremes

Even as we are celebrated as quite possibly the worlds hottest real estate market, and certainly the possessor of the worlds coolest population of residents, our fair borough has to cope with a certain amount of height-humility. When 388 Bridge St. had its glittering crown added last year, it capped a building of some 590 feet, then and now Brooklyn’s tallest. Compared to the breathtaking 1,776-foot One World Trade Center, and the 1,396-foot 432 Park Ave. (the next tallest building in the city before the Empire State Building), this is a relative molehill, of course, but then one has to apply a certain perspective. Seventy-five feet taller than the borough runner-up, the Brooklyner (111 Lawrence Street), the latest triumph of developer the Stahl Organization and SLCE Architects is an edifice with a simply unparalleled assemblage of views—commanding, area-unprecedented vistas that on the right day will extend all the way to Newark Airport and beyond.

A hybrid of 234 rental and 144 condo units, the tower is, after barely a year, 80% sold according to Halstead Property Development Marketing, and leasing at the clip of a unit each day. With rents starting at $2,800 for studios and climbing to well over $7,000, and for-sale homes starting at approximately $620,000 dollars for studios, 388 Bridge explores the higher end of an already slightly lunatic market, but then again, height exclusivity commands a certain attention and audience, never mind its enviable siting at the meeting ground of Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, Fort Greene and Dumbo.

All residences feature wide expanses of windows (double pane, with an air filled interior section that reduces exterior noise by better than 30 dB), grey washed white oak flooring, expansive closet space (custom built-ins available), stainless steel appliances, Bosch washers and dryers, and deep soaking tubs. Other major plusses include a rooftop viewing terrace, a lounge, media room, kids play area, a gym, and an additional terrace on the fifth floor with BBQ grilling deck and play area.
