Brought up on tape dubs and lo-fi, DJ Sourmilk has since built a legend, and is coming to the Tropicana for one night only

by evan Monroe

Born and Bred: Los Angeles

Early Days: Started making mix tapes from deck to deck. “Literally…I would hit “record,” tape a snippet of something, pause it, then record something else,” he laughed. “My brother and parents got tired of seeing me do that and bought me a pair of turntables for my 15th birthday.” From then on, sour MILK kept his “fingertips to the vinyl.”

Notable Gigs: He has performed alongside Ozzy Osbourne, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. His discography includes discs in collaboration with hip-hop legend Nas, and most recently, Chicago’s rhyming rapper/actor, Common.

Spin Style: Appreciated for his diverse taste, sour MILK has been know to cleverly blend beats from across the spectrum, and treats no genre as taboo when it comes to “orchestrating a mix.”

Other Work: When he’s not spinning at Hollywood hot spots like Apple, Kiss Lounge, and Green Door, he’s blessing the airways on L.A.’s mega station, Power 106 FM , and nationwide Saturday nights on XM and Sirius Satellite radio. Other work includes an album titled The Kush
2009, with Bay Area artist Ya Boy, as well as his own mix tape series called
someofmyfavoritethings.
