Welcome to the future of glamping. Abu Dhabi-based Ardh Architects recently launched plans for a mind-bending Floating Retreat in the UAE that will invite intrepid travelers on an overnight escape unlike anything they’ve ever experienced. Suspended between two peaks in the mountains of Sharjah, the luxury tents are appointed with comfy beds, electricity, Wi-Fi, and heating to ensure guests remain cozy and warm as they feast on views of the stars above and valley below. Developed in partnership with Shurooq, a Sharjah investment and development authority, the sustainably built retreat was inspired by cliff camping, the extreme sport of pitching a tent on the face of a mountain. The concept is also entirely mobile. The tents are prefab, constructed of fabric and steel cables, making them easy to transport from one scenic location to the next. Visitors can bask all day in their sky tent amid panoramic vistas of vast stretches of the Sharjah mountain scape, or take part in a plethora of exhilarating activities like cycling, rock climbing, trail treks, and guided tours. The retreat’s private restaurant and concierge are located on the ground floor reception area, but room service is also included just in case you never want to fly the coop.
