EVERY YEAR, THE WORLD’S LARGEST AND BUZZIEST TECH SHOW KICKS OFF IN SIN CITY, EXCITING GADGET-HEADS AND FORWARD THINKERS ALIKE WITH VANGUARD AND SOMETIMES ZANY INNOVATIONS. HERE ARE OUR STANDOUTS FROM THIS YEAR’S CES
BY EVAN MONROE.
Plantaform Smart Indoor Garden
Touted as the world’s first smart indoor garden that uses innovative fog technology to grow plants, this handsome home growing system is also an eye-pleasing centerpiece. The “fogponics” method delivers nutrients to the plant’s roots through a very fine mist or fog, which the maker touts as a more efficient watering system, resulting in faster growths and higher yields than traditional methods. It’s also self-cleaning, and your plant babies’ progress is trackable via the corresponding app. $500, plantaform.com.
LG’s Stanby ME 2
First revealed in 2022, LG’s portable TV featured a built-in suitcase for taking the 27-inch macro-tablet on the go, and this year’s sequel offers a sharper, 1440p screen (up from 1080p) for a crisper cinematic experience anywhere in the world. While on the road, users can prop up the screen via a floor stand, and when they return home, simply hang the carrying strap on the wall like a picture frame. LG also beefed up the battery life to four hours, better to binge multiple episodes of season two of Severance. Price TBA, lg.com.
Schlage Sense Pro Smart Deadbolt
Smart door locks aren’t a new innovation, but this one is particularly nifty: using the security giant’s new Converge technology with an Ultra Wideband, the lock calculates the speed, trajectory, and motion of your smartphone to unlock the door at the exact second you approach. With its smart app sidekick, users can manage up to 250 access codes for keyless entry, plus a slew of other smart goodies. $199, schlage.com.
Tenet’s AI Laundry Robot
Currently, we call upon our AI assistant for a multitude of tasks, from drafting emails or customized meal and workout plans to analyzing data or summarizing entire books, but Tenet’s prototype is intent on helping with the most mundane but essential of tasks – laundry. The egg-shaped wash-and-dry machine not only hang-dries your polos and pants, but even folds them upon completion. It’s still squarely in the conceptional phase, but this one could be a household staple if it comes to market. Price TBA, tenetrobots.com.
Govee Table Lamp 2 Pro x Sound by JBL
It wouldn’t be a proper tech roundup without a flashy new audio device, and Govee’s tabletop pays homage to lava lamps of yore. The multicolor smart light features built-in JBLs and a matrix of 210 individually controlled LED beads that sync and pulse with the beats. It’s both portable and rechargeable, so stash it in your suitcase the next time you need to turn your hotel room into an EDM show. $150, jbl.com.
LG AeroCat Tower
This one isn’t a future shaping innovation by any means, but it’s clever and damn useful, thus it’s earned its place on this list. This sleek cat tree by LG doubles as an air purifier. It features a built-in weight sensor to lower its flow while hosting Mr. Mittens, then ramps back up to full steam when the cat jumps off. Price TBA, lg.com.
