IT’S BEEN A FULL DECADE SINCE PORSCHE DEBUTED ITS NOW BEST-SELLING MACAN – AN SUV IN CLASS BUT SPORTS CAR AT HEART – AND THIS YEAR, THE GERMAN SUPER-MARQUE IS MAKING WAVES ONCE AGAIN WITH THE ALL-NEW MACAN ELECTRIC, A PETROL-FREE POWERHOUSE WITH THE SOUL OF A STALLION
BY ERIK SCHONING
The Macan is a relative newcomer in the Porsche lineup; the first Macan debuted in 2014 as
a more compact alternative to the Cayenne SUV. But newcomers have a way of sneaking up on the pack: since 2015, the Macan has been Porsche’s number one global best-seller. Now, ten years since its inception, the Macan is paving the way as the company looks toward its next generation of electric vehicles. Enter the 2025 Macan Electric.
Porsche has three words in mind to describe the latest Macan: young, urban, and electric. The Macan Electric features a progressive interpretation of classic Porsche design, including wide, flared fenders reminiscent of the 911, frameless doors, an updated take on the classic Macan side blades, and an elegant flyline in rear. Standard 21-inch light alloy wheels add an aerodynamic and stylish touch. Overall, the Macan Electric is lower, longer, and more dynamic than previous iterations, giving it an even sportier feel on the road.
In keeping with its progressive ethos,
the Macan Electric is also highly customizable, yielding a unique vehicle for every driver. The side blades swooping along the body can be color custom-ized, as can optional two-tone interiors, to create eye-catching and bold combinations when paired with a preferred body paint color.
That customizaton extends to the interior as well. The maker is big on what it calls the “Porsche Driver Experience,” and the Macan Electric is no exception.
This model features a 12.6-inch curved cockpit display, plus a 10.9-inch central display and an optional passenger display, all of which can be customized to yield the ultimate driving experience. Comfort is enhanced by a multifunction sports steering wheel, adjustable comfort seats,
and a robust internal lighting package, including both adjustable ambient lighting and Porsche’s all-new communication light system, which can warn the driver of hazards on the road.
And because this is, after all, an SUV, the Macan Electric features plenty of interior storage, both in its spacious trunk and under the hood, thanks to the efficiency and compactness of electric engines. Performance-wise, Porsches have long been heralded for their swift acceleration and spirited driving dynamics, and the Macan Electric is no exception. The top-performing Turbo variant touts a meaty 630 ponies along with 833 lb.-ft. of torque, blasting from standstill to 60 in 3.1 meager seconds.
All models boast an air suspension and adaptive dampers. As with its Taycan brethren, the Macan EV features an
800-volt battery, double the voltage of most electric car batteries.
The Macan Electric starts at $77,295
and tops out around $107K.
