MOVE OVER YACHTS AND SEA-FACING HOMES, OCEAN BUILDERS’ SEAPODS ARE THE FUTURE OF WATERFRONT LIVING

BY ARCHANA AITHAL ROSE

They look like something ripped from the scenes of a sci-fi movie: snow white globes of glass and concrete rising from the aqua waters, but as is oft-repeated in the tech world, the future is now. Panama-based design firm Ocean Builders recently launched the world’s first eco-restorative floating homes. Created in collaboration with Dutch architect Koen Olthuis, these aquatic homes combine the best of sustainability and future-forward design. Inspired by icebergs, these futuristic SeaPods achieve buoyancy through 1,688 cubic feet of air-filled steel tubes that push the pods three meters above the water’s surface. Each dwelling boasts 833 square feet of interior living space, featuring a living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and storage space. A 575-square-foot glass window and open-air patio let Sweeping Ocean and sky views bathe the pods in natural splendor. The pods are fully connected, so residents can dim lights, control the temperature, play music, or open doors via a wearable smart ring. And for food deliveries, land-mortal approved Doordash has been replaced by drones to drop off supplies. Prices for the SeaPod Eco start at $295,000.
