FIVE GREAT IDEAS TO MAKE THIS VALENTINE’S DAY, OR ANY DAY, SPECIAL

BY FRANK BENNETT

Every person on the planet has a particular pathway of emotional understanding…how she or he feels emotions, including those expressed or unexpressed in response to words like “I love you.” If we’re lucky, we not only comprehend our own pathway, but that of our significant other as well.

It’s amazing how often I hear people say that it’s not the money, it’s the intangible things that are valued and make them feel truly appreciated. But what if you don’t know for sure what your significant other’s love language is?

Here are five actions that you can take easily over the five days leading up to Valentine’s Day to ensure that person feels unmistakably seen and cherished.

DAY ONE: Find one thing you know they’d love doing and make time to do it whether it’s a couples massage, seeing a show at St. George Theatre, grabbing high tea at The Stone House at Clove Lakes, touring the New York Chinese Scholar’s Garden, or something as simple as a walk in the park.

DAY TWO: Write him or her three hand written notes that honestly communicate how special they are and what they are wonderful at. Place them in various locations (car, dresser, desktop) so they will discover each as a beautiful surprise.

DAY THREE: Do something(s) in the chore realm for that person that’d be out of your usual routine perhaps making the bed, doing the dishes, or washing their car. Be of service.

DAY FOUR: Look for opportunities to simply hold that person’s hand and/or give a back rub to connect with them in a nurturing way. Something as spontaneous and simple as this, in my experience, takes a heart to new heights

DAY FIVE…THE BIG DAY: It’s February 14. By all means engage in some variation(s) of our previous days’ actions, but also think about a tangible gift of something meaningful perhaps making them a gift you know will result in a smile from ear to ear.
