FROM THE MOSH PIT TO THE INTERNATIONAL MAIN STAGE: AUSTRALIAN SUPER DUO NERVO CONTINUES ITS RAPID ASCENSION TO ELECTRONIC ROYALTY
BY TIA KIM
BORN: Affable and effortlessly hip twin sisters Olivia and Miriam Nervo hail from Ivanhoe, Australia.
SOUND: Clean, big room house.
EARLY CAREER: Lifelong disciples of electronic dance music, the twins’ fervor for the sound began in mosh pits in their native Australia, where they rocked purple lipstick and spiked hair at Fatboy Slim and Basement Jaxx shows. Their bombshell good looks actually landed a modeling contract at 16, but two years later, the sisters signed with Sony/ATV Music Publishing, kicking off a songwriting career that eventually led to a Grammy win. NERVO began releasing their own music in 2010, and in 2015, their debut album Collateral was released to smashing success.
NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS: The A-list clubbing community’s first set of twins, the sisters are the all-time highest ranking female DJs in the world, currently sitting at DJ Mag’s number 16 spot. They’ve headlined the world’s leading festivals, from Lollapalooza and Cream fields to Tomorrow land, and even won a Grammy for co-writing fellow DJ David Guetta and Kelly Rowland’s No. 1 dance hit “When Love Takes Over” (2009). NERVO has collaborated with some of the flashiest names in the biz, including Kesha, The Pussycat Dolls, Afrojack, Steve Aoki, Armin Van Buuren, and Miley Cyrus. In 2017, the pair released the viral hit “Best Friend,” which skyrocketed to No. 1 on iTunes and even became the official iPhone X campaign launch song.
UPCOMING SHOWS: NERVO is playing at a pair of venues in Las Vegas in April and May before crossing the pond to play Tomorrow land 2022 in Boom, Belgium.
