A NEARLY 90 YEAR OLD LUXURY APPLIANCE BRAND FAMED FOR MODERNIST AND TECH FORWARD AESTHETICS RELEASES ITS MOST EXTRAORDINARY COOKER YET

BY TIA KIM

A City of Industry, California based subsidiary of Samsung Electronics America, Dacor traces its history to 1933, when Stanley M. Joseph launched an appliance store in Northern California, in time designing ventilation hoods under the name Stanthony Corp. The family enterprise was reformed as the full kitchen line maker Distinctive Appliances in 1965, better known as Dacor one famed for modernist and tech forward aesthetics. (It cannily co-branded, for example, with BMW Group Design works USA for its Distinctive 36 inch Gas Cooktop.) Upon being acquired by Samsung in 2016, a company press release assured that “Dacor will maintain its corporate identity, with no changes to operations and U.S. based manufacturing.”

Part of Dacor’s Modernist line that includes ranges, refrigerators, hoods, and disposals, the 48 Inch Pro Dual Fuel Steam Range with Griddle includes innovations like steam roasting and steam baking, speed convection, a Wi Fienabled LCD touchscreen, and 22,000 BTU dual stack sealed brass burners. Steam cooking means that meats are juicy on the inside, brown and crispy on the outside, while breads are lighter, fluffier, and flakier. The automatically tilting seven inch smooth touch glass panel is a “culinary command center” for a variety of pre-programmed settings and step by step recipes. Its graphite stainless steel features a company exclusive Diamond Like Carbon coating that provides exceptional scratch, heat, and stain resistance. A process also used in the luxury watch industry, DLC requires up to 24 hours of labor to produce each appliance.

Available in electric and natural gas versions, the range includes six sealed burners up top, plus a griddle, dual ovens (one convection), a Perma Flame Re Ignition system, 6.6 cubic feet of interior cooking capacity, and remote monitoring and control systems.
