When the owners of this unique duplex in Cliffside Park decided to renovate, they were determined to include every luxury, and make the most of the unit’s panoramic views of the Hudson River and
Manhattan skyline.

Located in the Carlyle Towers, the villa underwent a down-tostuds renovation, completed less than a year ago. With new, high ceilings and an open concept, its 3,744 square feet of living space with exceptional views is truly a whole new home.

The renovation produced a theatrical change to the two-story property, starting with ceiling heights, now at approximately 10 feet. “The original height was not dramatic,” noted the homeowner. “We raised it significantly [two feet]. It dramatically increased airiness and the brightness of the rooms. We increased the ceiling heights of the lower floors, too, by about six inches.”

The homeowners also found ways to flood the space with additional natural light. “We discovered several skylights which allowed for a significant illumination increase throughout the main floor,” they said. “We also uncovered a series of transom glass that had once been hidden.”

One of the goals was to create three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms from a space that originally had two bedrooms and bathrooms. That was accomplished, and the once “narrow and insignificant staircase was expanded and widened to make it more inviting,” the owners noted.

The kitchen was also completely redesigned.

“[It] was a dark and closed off area,” they explained. “We demolished everything completely. The new one is open and beautiful. It features custom-built Eurostyle units with booked and matched high-quality wood veneer cabinetry. The appliances are Wolf and Miele, complemented by white Artistic Tile countertops and flooring.

The living room and dining room spaces are open and can be seen and enjoyed from the kitchen. These areas feature a diverse selection of décor choices.

“We are eclectic in our design selections,” the owners noted. “There are examples of our favorite periods, from 18th- to 19th-century antiques to Art Deco and mid-century modern pieces. We like design that’s high in quality and character.”

In the dining room, a round Art Deco wooden dining table sits over a luxurious area rug under a custom chandelier. The room also has access to one of two terraces in the home. “The views are spectacular. We see the George Washington Bridge to the north and downtown NYC to the south.”
The terrace features an iron patio, with seating for four, and looks out below onto green manicured lawns and trees, while the living room offers a large, sleek leather couch accented by a glass cocktail table. A traditionally-inspired fireplace sits across from the seating area, with a mirror above bedecked by personal collectibles. A contemporary side chair and seating area by the windows complete the space.

Above the staircase’s clean lines, artwork collected by the homeowners graces the walls in ornamental gold frames. An uncluttered glass credenza and side table also hold pieces collected by the family.

The master bedroom features a second terrace and natural light throughout.

“The apartment is [facing] direct east, and gets the morning sun and the beautiful reflections of the setting sun to the west,” the homeowner noted.

In the master, a brass canopy bed sits beneath a tray ceiling, and ornate mirrors accentuate the walls.

The minimalist guest bedroom features gray bedding on twin beds with charcoal tufted headboards. Another bedroom, done with products from Artistic Tile (multiple locations in
NJ), contrasts its traditional bedding with rich side tables and embellished lamps.

Luxurious details are not omitted in the suite’s updated bathrooms, either.

“The cabinetry in the two guest bathrooms are Italian imports. Flooring throughout is an exclusive design, likewise from Artistic Tile,” the homeowners noted.

In one bathroom, a double vanity in contemporary cabinetry is both functional and high style. A soaking tub is its most relaxing detail. Another bath features a wooden-look vanity and custom tile and glass shower stall.

In addition, the residence has several green technology components, including Smart Home Technology with automated Hunter Douglas Silhouettes (power shading), custom LED lighting and fixtures, a glass transom, and skylights.
