Cut 25 by Yigal Azrouël is a witty mash-up of sheer femininity and urban ardor

by Sarah dE Brun

If there’s anything that can be said for Cut25 by Yigal Azrouël’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection, it’s that each piece clearly wants us to relax. Sporty bombers, softly tailored suits, and a punch of palm leaf prints on laidback silhouettes evoke a chill spirit for the year’s warmest months—a much-welcomed thing after last winter’s infamous rage. How does Azrouël know so deeply our need for pieces that radiate a place of paradise? Better yet, how is he able to create must-haves for the season that we didn’t even know we needed?

Cut25 by Yigal Azrouël (25 symbolizes Yigal’s lucky number) entered the scene in 2010, twelve years after his namesake luxury line first launched. The objective? To fill the closets of every chic 20- to 30-something who calls urban landscape home and provide them with a younger dosage of its high level sister brand. (Put simply, if Yigal Azrouël is worn by the editor, Cut25 is worn by the assistant.) His edgy designs appeal to those who are confident in their wardrobe choices… something that comes naturally at a young age.

The story behind Azrouël himself begins with him as a young boy from Israel, surrounded by a family of strong females. He now calls New York City home and pulls inspiration from its metropolitan architecture and lifestyle, fuses that with childhood influences, and transfers the combination into each creation.

While the brand exists as an atelier in the now-glamorous Meatpacking District, Cut25 sees the city streets as a showroom. The line is clearly a product of its environment.

Summertime in Manhattan and its surrounding boroughs is no stranger to humid heat and on-the-go schedules, so light fabrics are crucial. Shapes that move with you aren’t just suggested, but a must. Not only does Yigal meet each requirement, he knows his client: a sophisticated gal with a hint of edge who is abundantly aware of fashion and the power style emits. Cut25 fills her summer wardrobe with looks that define cool—while serving as a second act to his Resort 2015 collection, which consisted of a largely black-and-white palette. Sheer, belted sundresses (perfect for gallery crawling), structured, embroidered work staples, brisk pops of cobalt, and an epic crimson leather moto jacket are fresh and welcoming for any tomboy who loves subtle femininity.
