HOW THE JOINING OF THE CARLO BARBERA AND KITON BRANDS EQUALS UNPARALLELED STYLE OPPORTUNITY
BY MICHAEL AND MATT DURU
Carlo Barbera’s 19th century lanificio (in Italian, “wool mill” or “wool factory”), located in the Biella town and commune in the northern Italian region of Piedmont, has been creating prestigious fabrics for the world’s premier fashion houses since 1949. By combining the finest raw materials with painstaking craftsmanship, innovative colors and designs, unique vintage looms, and proprietary finishing techniques, Barbera earned a preeminent reputation. In 2010, the mill joined the Kiton brand a luxury ready to wear and made to measure clothing company founded in 1956 in Naples by Ciro Paone (a fifth generation fabric merchant) and Antonio Carola the guiding philosophy of which is, as its mission statement reads, “being the best of the best, plus one,” reflecting its focus on unparalleled quality, luxury, and rarity of fabrics.
