AUSTRALIAN DJ, RECORD PRODUCER, AND SKILLED INSTRUMENTALIST TIMMY TRUMPET BRINGS A FRESH SOUND TO THE ELECTRONIC DANCE SPHERE, BRIDGING BIG-HOUSE BEATS WITH DIZZYING BRASS SOLOS
BY TIA KIM
BORN: Timothy Jude Smith hails from the Emerald City: Sydney, Australia.
SOUND: As his stage moniker suggests, the Australian DJ and instrumentalist is a prodigy trumpet player (he even nabbed the Australian Young Musician of the Year award at 13), famed for injecting big room production with heady brass solos.
BIG BREAK: His first global mega-hit “Freaks” (featuring New Zealand rapper Savage) was released in 2015 and shot to the top of the charts in Australia and Europe, eventually amassing half a billion streams on Spotify. Stateside, the track debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard Emerging Artists chart and has been featured in several TV shows and films, including Santa Clarita Diet, Collide, Teen Wolf, and Training Day.
NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS: A dance party conductor (Trumpet often uses pyrotechnics at his live shows), he is a perennial favorite on the world’s largest stages, from Creamfields and Electric Daisy Carnival to Tomorrow World and Ultra. The multi-platinum selling artist is currently ranked No. 1 in his homeland and No. 9 in the world (per DJ Mag’s Top 100), and he has toured and collaborated with some of the biggest names in the biz, including Dutch DJ and resident chart topper Armin van Buuren and American heavyweight Steve Aoki.
ADDITIONAL INSTRUMENTS: Piano, guitar, and bongos.
