ONE OF THE MOST ICONIC AIRLINES IN HISTORY, TWA IN ADDITION TO A NEWLY OPENED HOTEL AT JFK LIVES ON IN THIS LIMITED EDITION TIMEPIECE

BY TIA KIM

There have been more than 200 U.S. airlines come and gone since commercial aviation began in the first decade of the 20th century, from Braniff to Eastern, Air America to Zantop Air Transport, but none have generated a need for remembrance like Trans World Airlines. Aka TWA, the company operated from 1930 until 2001 (when it was acquired by American Airlines) and pioneered transcontinental and ultimately transoceanic routes, particularly after being acquired by Howard Hughes in 1939. It’s a brand so enduring that a years long effort was undertaken to spare the airline’s iconic terminal at JFK one that’s now incorporated into the new TWA Hotel.

Breitling has made its own affection for the carrier apparent in this Navitimer 1 B01 Chronograph 43 TWA Limited Edition. It features a 47 jewel Swiss movement, 43 millimeter steel case, and glare proof front and back sapphire crystals accentuated by signature TWA colors and a back placed logo. The silver dial, with contrasting anthracite subdials, is nicely contrasted by a stainless steel mesh bracelet. Its mechanical chronograph movement delivers remarkable precision, backed by a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. Also available with a vintage inspired brown leather strap with either a pin buckle or a folding clasp.
