Fired of dealing with pain and discomfort every day for years, Regan McCabe sought out a new way to heal. After an extended period of time of searching for medical solutions, she finally turned to cryotherapy broadly defined as the local or general use of low temperatures in treatment.
“I was dealing with a number of health conditions, including autoimmune issues like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. It’s a tough thing to cope with. I was going from doctor to doctor, but not really getting the relief I was looking for,” she recalled of past struggles.
Cryotherapy, she found, did help, though traveling to Manhattan for treatment was part of the price. “There was nothing in the Monmouth County area at the time, and I thought it would be great to have it here because there are so many benefits to it,” she said.
Fast forward to April of 2018, when McCabe opened the doors to Arctic Fire Cryo in the heart of Shrewsbury. The wellness studio offers a range of services, including Whole Body Cryotherapy, Localized Cryotherapy, Cryoskin 2.0, as well as an Infrared Sauna.
Essentially a modernized ice bath, Whole Body Cryotherapy works to reduce inflammation and assist with muscle recovery, while burning a remarkable 500 to 800 calories in the process.
“You go in a chamber for three minutes and it goes down to well below zero degrees Fahrenheit, but it’s a dry cold. It’s tolerable,” McCabe noted. And the chill is worth it, as cryotherapy, according to the owner, works to increase range of motion, improve sleep, boost energy and metabolism, and improve skin.
Arctic Fire Cryo also offers localized cryotherapy, which applies cold air to a specific spot for relief, as well as cryo facials on the face and neck to improve acne, psoriasis, eczema, and rosacea. It also offers Cryoskin 2.0, a treatment that can help slow the aging process and remove unwanted cellulite a noninvasive treatment solution for slimming and toning. Effective, painless, and convenient, it eliminates fat cells without damaging surrounding tissues, resulting in, said McCabe, a 38 percent average fat loss, with clients typically reporting quick results.
The Infrared Sauna is unique in that, unlike traditional versions, it heats the body from the inside out, and is, the owner explained, “detoxifying to organs and eliminates heavy metals and environmental toxins. It’s really good for skin rejuvenation.”
While McCabe has succeeded at making Arctic Fire Cryo a comforting space equipped with a myriad of constantly updated services, part of her mindset is also to keep them affordable.
“We work to make it as budget friendly as we can,” she said. “And I would very much like to expand to other locations and even add more services.”
