INSPIRED BY THE WATERS OF CÔTE D’AZUR, WHICH THE FIFTY FATHOMS COLLECTION WAS INSPIRED BY, THE NEWEST BLANCPAIN BATHYSCAPHE AUTOMATIC MEN’S WATCH TAKES A BOW

BY ARCHANA AITHAL ROSE

Building on the success of a collection introduced in 1953 by Blancpain’s then CEO Jean Jacques Fiechter, the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe is a revival of the now 65 year old model. Celebrated as the original modern dive watch (it unveiled a number of category innovations even before the Rolex Submariner), Fifty Fathoms have been touted as pioneering some of the most significant advancements in horology. Blancpain’s newest version of the Bathyscaphe, the distinctive 5000-0240-052A model seen here, features a satin brushed grey ceramic casing with a dazzling metallic blue dial and liquid metal hour markers. Its Caliber 1315 movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, is composed of 227 parts, and features 35 jewels. The watch has a power reserve of approximately 120 hours and is outfitted with a blue sailcloth canvas strap, further referencing the marine theme.
